Please note: This review is for the 11 series Sealy Posturpedic True Form Mattress. I cannot speak to the 8 series and I was told by a sales rep that they have now discontinued the 9 series.
I spent a lot of time reviewing mattresss and bought a Tempurpedic. A little more than 4 years ago, I bought a new top brand spring mattress. A friend of my mothers has a furniture store and she gave me the whole education about spring count and what makes a quality mattress. I was sold and she sold me a $1,500 mattress for $800. It was a bargin….I thought.
The mattress was fine at first, but it started to sag and loose its form (this was not suppose to happen with this mattress) anyway, my wife and I started waking with neck and lower back pain. We were not sleeping well and the time had come to buy a new mattress.
After 15 years, our trusty Spring Air back supporter was on its last legs. My wife, who has lower back pain, really wanted to try the Tempur Pedic, as we had done some research on the product, and it had a good return policy. Two thousand dollars is a lot of money for a mattress, but when you spend a third of your life sleeping,well…
We bought the mattress in the dead of a Texas summer. My wife was instantly thrilled, saying her back hadn’t felt this good in years. I, quite frankly, think it provides a good night’s sleep; but if I had a choice, I’d rather have another Spring Air. The Tempur Pedic does have a lot of nice features. It does mold itself to your body. If you read in bed you can lean on one elbow and your elbow will sink into the mattress and not get stiff. You can jump on the bed and not wake your spouse since the mattress does not transfer motion. The one thing I really do like are the pillows. They really mold themselves to your head. (Should have them on airline seats.)
What a sap I am! I got mesmerized by the infomercial and bought a sleep number bed. My back has never hurt more than it does now. I have two herniated discs (T11 and T12) and thought this would help my back. I paid about 1600 dollars, which is a lot of money for me, and boy do I regret it. I finally thought I would treat myself to a luxury mattress, but it is awful. For the life of me I can’t figure out my sleep number. It’s hard to get in and out of, and far from a restful sleep. Unfortunately I can’t return it, and don’t have the money for a new mattress. Do yourself a favor…don’t buy one!! I find myself sleeping on the couch when I really need to get a good night’s rest…so what does that tell you? One morning less than a year after I bought it the pump broke and the mattress would not adjust on my side. I had to wait till they shipped me a new pump, change it myself and then ship back the old one. It is the worst purchase I have ever made. The bionic woman really sold me , and every night I am annoyed. It will take me a year or two to save up and buy a new mattress, and when I do, I will go back to an inner spring mattress.
I bought the Simmons Backcare Ultimate Supreme mattress just 2 years ago. It felt GREAT at first… for about six months. It has a “pillow top” which is a padded surface on top of the mattress that is super comfy. But after a while, it started to sink down, and I could feel the indentation of my body so I moved to the other side. then that got sunken in too. You can’t flip the mattress as the padding is only on one side. I contacted Simmons and they said the warranty is only for the springs, not the padding. When I complained that it had cost me $4000 and was only 2 years old, they replied “Well we have even more expensive mattresses… $2000 is not that much…” I was so mad!
Mattress showed very definite body indentations after less than 2 weeks! There’s a large dent where hubby sleeps, a smaller one where I sleep, and believe it or not, even a little one where the cat sleeps every night. After almost 2 weeks I called the store, they sent over 2 “technicians” who just also happened to be the 2 kids that delivered the bed in the first place - technicians my you know what. They placed a heavy metal bar across the bed then attempted to measure the dent with a tape measure that I provided! They said it had to be a 2 inch dent for Serta to do anything. I called the manager and he stated that it was actually 1.5 inches, but mine only measured an inch and so they wouldn’t do anything about it. I explained that after 2 weeks there should be NO indentations and I wanted him (the manager) to come look. He said it wouldn’t do any good, nothing he can do until it gets to 1.5 inch. It never will because the stats say the foam is 1.5 inches thick, so unless every single bit of foam gets mashed away, they won’t do anything. Besides the indentations, there are two very descernable humps running down the center of the bed, which I have to “climb” over if I want to snuggle with my husband. These dents and humps are noticeable even with the bed made and you can see it all the way out in the hall. The decorator that is doing my bed ruffle, thought I hadn’t received my new bed yet because she saw how caved in this one was. I explained that it was the new one, and she couldn’t believe it. I might add, it’s not even comfortable unless I stay in the hole, when I try to move, I fall right back into it, and the lumps in the middle are very annoying.
So my girlfriend and I decided it was time to buy a Select Comfort mattress. We went into the store and bought the 5000 model with the pillowtop. 99.9% of the things I have read about this mattress have been extremely positive. Even on this site all the reviews have been positive.
About four days after we bought this thing it arrived Fed Ex (which in my opinion is a pretty fast delivery time). We opened the two boxes and assembled the bed in about 1/2 an hour .
We purchased our King Size Select Comfort Mattress in 1999. I was 44 years old at the time suffering from a minor back (lower lumbar) injury at the time. We’ve had our Select Comfort bed for slightly over 4 years now.
Let me begin by saying that a mattress is a very personal and subjective item. What is comfortable for one person, another person may find uncomfortable. All I know is that this mattress has done wonders for me. About seven years ago, I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis. My bone density in my hips was so low that sleeping on a traditional mattress was extremely painful. I would have to toss and turn frequently from side to side to take the pressure off of my hips and ankles. I purchased a select comfort mattress from QVC when they first began selling them several years ago. (approximately six years ago) This model does not have a digital readout on the remote control, so you have to go by “feel” when adjusting the degree of firmness of the air chambers. I also purchased a good quality visco-elastic mattress pad (NOT tempurpedic) at Linens and Things, which I placed sandwiched in between two mattress covers, and this even increased the comfort level more. If it were not for this bed, I doubt that I could have ever gotten a decent night’s sleep. I am very happy with the mattress and I think that it is a good choice. I am able to adjust the firmness according to my pain level, and since I’ve been sleeping on this mattress, I sleep much more soundly and feel more rested. I just opened my mattress to see if there was any mold inside the bed, as another reviewer had stated, and the bladders and foam looked as fresh and new as the day we installed them. Since the average person spends a third of their life sleeping, it was well worth the money spent in order to get a comfortable night’s sleep. I would highly recommend this bed to anyone with chronic pain. I just recommended this bed to a friend, and they just purchased one. So far, they are very pleased and feel that it is a good investment.
We thought having a nice inflatable mattress for our unexpected guests and going on camping trips would really be worth the investment over the ones you pick up at your local discount store. Boy were we wrong when we bought the Aero Minute Bed Mattress.
The mattress was different because it came with a charger that you plug in the wall and then take over to the inlet of the mattress which inflated within a couple of minutes. Excellent idea for those camping trips since you don’t need to bring a portable air compressor.
