My wife and I splurged for this mattress in 2000. In need of a mattress after our first 10 years together, we felt we deserved something to pamper ourselves with during our sleep. So, we spent beyond budget for the Simmons BackCare mattress and felt good about it as it was the most comfortable mattress for both of us (she 5′ 105 lbs, he 6′ 220 lbs). For the first two years, we were thrilled. Slept like babies.

After a couple of years, things started to change. Even with diligent and regular turning, the mattress started to break down. Now, we have two large ‘pits’ where we sleep. This is intolerable since we were so diligent about flipping and rotating, these pits are on the left and right, top and bottom sides.

The pits from the breakdown of support are so significant that you can readily see them when the bed is made up. When you lay on the bed, you now find yourself rolling into the depression. YES, THIS IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD!!!! Now my wife and I wake up every morning with sore hips and backs. Clearly not refreshing sleep… and clearly not ‘BACKCARE’ as the name would suggest.

It is sad. We starting thinking this was a great investment. But after having to replace a $1200 mattress (and box spring) after 3 years, it becomes one of our worst-ever investments.

Shouldn’t the fundamental purpose of a mattress be to maintain its support for as long as possible?
