The Best Rest Englander Tension Ease There's no need to rehash what to look for when buying a mattress, if you made it this far then you p...
In the late 1970s I bought an Englander Tension Ease (extra firm) from my mother’s friend, who had bought it and found it too firm for her. So it was used, but barely.
It is now 2002, and I still have that mattress. Over the past 24 years I have lugged it around to my different residences. It has been slept on, dropped, banged up, you name it. It is almost the same as when I bought it, but ….finally….has more “give” in it. It was extremely firm when I bought it. I’d say it’d be classified as just “firm” now. And now I have two mattress pads on top of it, which makes it quite comfy.
I’ve moved it my guest room. No need to get rid of it, since it is still sturdy & has no lumps or bumps. No coils have sprung out, and the box frame is in perfect condition, except that the thin material covering the underneath of it tore years ago. It’s not a box spring…it’s a box frame.
I now need a new mattress because now that I’m older, I need something with more “give.” Otherwise, I’d continue sleeping on the Englander. What else is made these days that will last over 20 years? Who knew when I bought this mattress that it would last me the bulk of my adult life?
I don’t know if Englander makes softer mattresses, but I will look for one. If Englander is still made the way it was in the 1970s, it’s one mattress that I know will last for a long time.
However, please note—-the Tension Ease that I have is super firm in feel. If it is rated as just a firm, then Englander coil mattress sets would be firmer than others I’ve tested. But the lady who sold it to me said that it was an “extra firm,” though I don’t know if she was stating the Englander’s rating of it or if that was her own comment.
A quality mattress, though.
